In June of 1866, the Village of Rockford was incorporated with 315 inhabitants. It was named after Rockford, Illinois, by a gentleman from the same town. He claimed it to be derived from the shallow, rocky ford below the dam where travelers crossed the river.
Today, Rockford is a vibrant, growing, community with a population of about 6000. There is always something happening somewhere in Rockford. From the new Rockford Historical Museum to the historic Krause Library, blues concerts in the summer, and art fairs in the fall, and much more, Rockford is a community that is easy to call home.
